Beatles Birthday Song

The Beatles Birthday Song is a special song enjoyed by millions of people across the world. Let yourself enjoy the wonderful song too.

The song ‘Birthday’ was originally written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and performed by the Beatles on their same named title ‘The Beatles’ which is also known as ‘The White Album’. The song is rock and roll in genre and was mostly written in the recording studios at Abbey Road studios in September of 1968.

How was the Song Written?

The song took a life of its own when the McCartney and Lennon developed a riff and developed the lyrics around it.

According to the recording studio audio engineer Chris Thomas the song was mostly written with McCartney playing the riff and eventually the other Beatles joined in. By which time the song had virtually been written.

John Lennon spoke about the development of this song during an interview with ‘Playboy Magazine, calling the song “ ...a piece of garbage.”

The song has been regarded as being one of  McCartney’s most intensively sung songs. It was written simplistically and with simple but effective lyrics.

Paul McCartney – lead vocal, piano, lead guitar, handclaps
John Lennon – lead and backing vocals, lead guitar, handclaps
George Harrison – six-string bass, handclaps
Ringo Starr – drums, tambourine, handclaps
Pattie Harrison – backing vocal, handclaps
Yoko Ono – backing vocal, handclaps
Mal Evans – handclaps

A well known singer Paul Weller covered the song for Paul McCartney’s 70th Birthday.

Beatles Birthday Song Lyrics

'Birthday'

You say it's your birthday
It's my birthday too, yeah
They say it's your birthday
We're gonna have a good time
I'm glad it's your birthday
Happy birthday to you.

Yes we're going to a party party
Yes we're going to a party party
Yes we're going to a party party

I would like you to dance (Birthday)
Take a cha-cha-cha-chance (Birthday)
I would like you to dance (Birthday)
Dance
