Ensure you have enough room for your games and take note of the materials and equipment as well. The instructions let you know how to play each game, but you may change the game to suit your guests.


Water Balloon Toss


Messy, watery and fun

Materials Needed

  • about 5 balloons per guest
  • water
  • area to throw the balloons
  • a bucket to put your balloons in
  • clothes that can get wet

How to Play the Game

Divide all players into groups of two and give each pair a balloon.

2. Players should line up in two lines, with partners facing each other. Every player should then take one big step backwards.

3. Each player holding a balloon gently tosses it to their partner. If the other player catches it successfully, the partners each take another step backwards. If the balloon breaks, it's game over!

4. If you're playing with a group of people, keep playing until only one pair is left. If you're playing with a friend, see how far apart you can get before the balloon breaks. Try to beat your record!


Water and Sponge Relays

Messy, watery and fun

Materials Needed

  • One large sponge per team
  • hose for water
  • buckets to fill water
  • clothes to get wet in
  • dis-washing liquid

How to Play the Game

Divide your guests into two teams.

Have two buckets full of water and dish-washing liquid 10 meters away on a chair.

At the front of the team should be one large sponge.

One at a time, each team member must take each sponge and dip it into the water run back to the team and pass them onto the next member in line. That front person stays at the front. The second member who receives the sponge must pass the sponge back behind them and so on and so on until the last person in line gets it. The last person then has to run to the bucket, dip it in and run back to the front person. That front person now passes it behind and so on and so on.

The winning team are the team that finishes the quickest. Good luck.



Scavenger Hunt In Water

Wet and Messy!

Materials Needed

  • a large container enough to fit many items in
  • lost of items, toys, bottles, clothes, anything
  • water
  • clothes to get wet in

How to Play the Game

Choose an item to find say a ring, small ball, pendant, keyring etc.

Each guest has to be blinded folded

They should dip their hands into the water to find the selected item.

Each guest should be timed. The guest to get the item the quickest is the winner


Jello Wrestling

Materials Needed

  • A child's paddling pool
  • loads of Jello or dishwashing liquid

Pour as much jello and or dishwashing liquid into the paddling pool. Have two party guests wrestle by getting the other person on the ground and pinning an arm behind their back. Ensure this game is played by adults who are o.k with this physical game. The winner is the person who pins the person down first. One of the fun messy party games.


Muddy Tug of War

Materials Needed

  • A long rope

Have your guests be divided into two teams. Put a hose onto a great ground which will muddy easily. Have your party guests have a tug of war. The winning team is the team to get the red flag over a designated spot. Our muddy messy party games.

Food Fight

  • Loads of cream pies
  • lots of food which are soft and easily thrown
  • string for the line

Have a host of soft foods on each side on a table of a designated area. Lay the string out to make a center line. On the count of go, have each team grab their food and throw it at the opposite team. No one is allowed to go over the line.The idea is to have each team covered in cream and food guck.There are no real winners, because everyone's a loser he he he.


Egg Tossing

  • lots of raw eggs

Have your party guests find a partner. Each partner will gather together approximately 30 cm apart and one of the pairs will hold a raw egg. On the word go, that person with the egg throws the egg gently to their partner and the partner does the same back. Each time a partner throws the egg they take one medium sized step backwards. The throwing continues until both partners are at a reasonable distance apart or until one of the partners does not catch the egg or it breaks in their hands. The winning pair are the ones who are the last to break their egg.

Pie Throwing

  • a range of pies of your choice

Have your party guests find a partner. Each partner will gather together approximately 30 cm apart and one of the pairs will hold a mince pie. On the word go, that person with the egg throws the mince pie gently to their partner and the partner does the same back. Each time a partner throws the mince pie, they take one medium sized step backwards. The throwing continues until both partners are at a reasonable distance apart or until one of the partners does not catch the mince pie or it breaks in their hands. You may give the rule that they are allowed to drop the pie once only. The winning pair are the ones who are still have a mince pie intact and are the the most far a part.


Tarp Water Rides

Materials Needed

  • A large/long tarp about 20 metres long
  • hose and water

Lay out the tarp in a slight hill. Put the hose on the top part of the tarp. Have your party guests slide down the hill/tarp. Watch them have lots of fun. Not one of the messy party games, but huge fun for all.


Apple bobbing

  • Larege washtub
  • water
  • lots of apples
  • dry towels.

Fill a large washtub with water and put apples in it, until they are still a few inches below water. Keep a good supply of dry towels handy for your guests, to dry their heads after bobbing. People participating in the game have to take the apples out of the tub only with their mouths, without using hands.


These messy party games are great to try, but do take a look at some of the games for slumber parties they might be appropriate for the less messy games. INDOOR MESSY PARTY GAMES

No Hands Pudding

Make a bowl of delicious puddings which could include, ice-cream, trifle, cake, candy sprinkles, chocolate, jelly and tons and tons of cream. Have each party guest or a selected few to volunteer to eat the pudding/desserts with their mouths only. Make sure their hands are tied behind their backs. Watch the fun unfold when guests can't seem to keep the food in the bowl or out of their faces. Make sure there is plenty of newspaper on the ground and even provide aprons for the guests. Check out the next few messy party games.

Blind Fold Pudding Time

Provide bowls of ice-cream, spongecake, chocolate syrup, candy, sprinkles, cream and anything typical dessert or pudding ingredients. Have three volunteers sit or stand with blind folds with a large spoon to begin to scoop food into their plate. On the word go, each guest must make as big a pile of dessert as they can using the most ingredients. After 5 or so minutes tell the guests to stop and take off their blind folds. Give the a person a medal or prize for the most, colorful, attractive and or delicious dessert. Each volunteer must swap their dessert/pudding with another volunteer and they must try it. This is a fun game with lots of laughs to be had. Messy Party games can be fun.

Jelly Eating (children)

Arrange a bowl of jelly evenly scooped for each party guest. On the floor spaced out have the children sit with their bowl infront of them with both of their hands on the floor either side of the bowl. On the word go, the children should scoff up the entire bowl. Children are not allowed to move their hands while scoffing.The first person to eat it all, is the winner. Messy party games for children can also be fun for adults, so do adapt to fit your party.
